 BACHELORS OF EDUCATION (B.Ed)

     Introduction

  • The Bachelor of Education Degree is designed to qualify students to teach in school.
  • The content of the B.Ed. programme seeks to equip participants with the competence to teach all levels of schooing.
  • The course promotes the personal and intellectual development of students, while providing the foundations necessary for a rewarding career in teaching.
  • The Education component is designed to provide students with the theoretical, practical and professional skills needed to teach confidently and proficiently. Working with children and teachers in schools is an integral part of the course.
  • In addition to primary teaching, the B.Ed offers access to many areas of employment. Graduates are to be found in all areas and levels of the educational system, the public service, the media, social and cultural organisations and the business community.
 

 

  Duration of the Course and Medium of Instruction

  • The duration of study for B.Ed. semester course shall extend over a period of one academic year of TWO semesters. The duration of first semester shall be of 16 weeks and second semester shall be of 18 weeks (204 working days).
  • Minimum duration for practice teaching shall be of SIX weeks which excludes programmes like micro teaching, simulated teaching and practice of communication skills.
  • The College shall provide instructions in both Kannada and English mediums separately in core-subjects provided the total strength of students in such class is more than 40. However, English and/or Kannada shall be generally medium of instruction for Content cum Method of teaching school subjects.
  • Student-teachers shall opt English or Kannada medium for teaching practice irrespective of their medium of instruction opted for theory papers in their colleges.
  • Student-teachers shall opt either English or Kannada medium to write their 1st Semester and IInd Semester examinations irrespective of their medium selected for theory classes and teaching practice.

Each student-teacher shall take two C.C.M's of teaching school subjects as per the combination given below:

3. Sanskrit, History and Civics 11. Hindi and Biological Sciences 19. Chemistry and Mathematics

Teaching Practice

Every student-teacher shall prepare 12+1 lesson plans in each C.C.M. subject which are to be guided and approved by the concerned method master. The marks of best 5 lessons could be taken for awarding marks to practice in teaching.
 

Practice teaching shall be in one block or spread over-type depending upon the convenience of the college with a minimum duration of 6 weeks.

 

School experience is regarded as a vital component of the B.Ed. degree course, and students spend approximately 18 weeks in school over the duration of the course. Every effort is made to ensure that students gain experience of teaching various age groups, multi-grade and single grade classes, and of working in both rural and urban schools. Teaching practice gives the opportunity to develop the wide range of skills required to be competent in a classroom. In addition it provides a practical context for College-based work. During all teaching practice placements students are supervised by College staff.

 

 

Attendance

A student-teacher must have 80% of attendance in each semester in all theory papers and practicum
